Car Control Clinic at Marana Airport

by Paul Koreneff

This event is now our May Featured Event. Circumstances beyond our control required us to change the date from March. Save this new date for this exciting event!

It will be held jointly by the Roadrunner Chapter and the Sonora Chapter.

Participants will drive their own cars, whether or not they are BMWs! (convertibles are welcome). Participants will learn how their car reacts to various commands and actions.

The Marana Airport is near Tucson, 100 miles or 1.5 hours away from the Phoenix area.

The price is $90 and includes lunch. Membership in the BMW Club is required. Space is limited so register soon! Registration is on the Sonora Chapter website.

(Associate membership may be available to participants who live in the same household as a current member.)

More details:

Come out and explore your limits and your car’s limits in a controlled setting. Car control skills are learned techniques. Having these skills at your command enhances your ability to be a safe driver in normal everyday situations. These skills are also the foundation for performance driving. Learn the basics of performance car control through several challenging exercises:

  • skid pad
  • slalom
  • ABS/threshold braking
  • emergency avoidance maneuver

Using their own car, each student will learn hands-on the physics of car control, pushing the car’s and their own limits in a safe, controlled setting. A driving instructor accompanies each student to provide immediate feedback while students maneuver their cars through exercises laid out with orange rubber cones in a closed parking lot. The exercises are fun, safe, challenging, and educational.

In addition, there will be classroom sessions to build on the knowledge gained during the exercises.

The Car Control Clinic is great for teenagers, beginning drivers, experienced drivers — anyone who wants better car control skills.

The Clinic is open to all BMW Club members. We explore vehicle dynamics in a controlled environment, with you at the wheel. The program is structured for people without any prior performance driving instruction. Each participant receives personalized instruction provided by experienced Club instructors. The level of instruction is tailored to fit the background of each individual student. All you need to attend is a membership in the BMW Club and a valid driver’s license (learner’s permits are not accepted). Registration in advance is required for all participants.
