CLUB ELECTIONS
"I will not seek . . . "
Those of you who have been
around a while know that I have been President for about 7 years, and that I
was Vice President for a year or so before that. While stability is important and I appreciate
the confidence you have all shown in me, having one President for that long is
just plain unhealthy for the Club. It is
time for a change. That is why, to quote
Lyndon Johnson, "I will not seek nor will I accept the nomination . . .
"
I will not run for
re-election as President this year. It
is my hope that an existing Board member who has shown the willingness and
ability to serve the Club will be elected to the office of President. That is not to say that new people should not
run for a position on the Board - it is just that the President's job is one
that benefits from having a sense of the history of the Club. Someone with experience can help other Club
officers and members as to what factors make certain ideas work or not. While any of the existing Board members would
do an excellent job as President, Lann Vannoy, who has been a Board member for
a few years, has expressed a willingness to serve as President. Although anyone is permitted to run for any
office, there are other positions that are available for interested Club
members to fill, so I recommend that Lann be elected to serve as our next
President.
I plan on staying active in
the Club and may run for election to one of the other open Board seats,
depending on how many other people show an interest in participating. I look forward to seeing all of you soon.
The current Board positions
are listed below, as are the names of the existing Board members who are
willing to serve another term if elected.
Our Secretary, Jim Edmonds, and VP Special Activities, Joe Cattaneo,
have agreed to stay on in their offices if no one else wants their positions,
but would be equally happy to have someone else take over their respective
responsibilities. Do not be put off by
the descriptive titles next to the various Vice President positions - the By
Laws use these titles, but we are wide open to anyone participating in any
manner they wish. If you are not sure
what position you want to run for, please throw your hat into the ring and we
will figure out what position might best suit you. Remember that in addition to the current
Board positions that are up for election there may be some other positions that
are currently open, meaning you would not necessarily be running against anyone - so please don't
hesitate to submit your name. Also
remember that even if you are not interested in a Board position, there are
other non-Board positions you can fill which will allow you to participate in
and assist the Club.

Elections nominations and
logistics:
Anyone seeking to run for a
position on the Board should submit nominations by email to our Secretary, Jim
Edmonds, at JEdmonds@microsi.com on or before June 15th. We will then send out a notice to you either
by email or other means regarding the identity of the candidates, brief
statements from the candidates that want to submit one, and instructions on how
and when to cast your vote. Remember,
this is YOUR Club. Please get involved.
Thank you again for all of
your support over the years.
